Purpose of the role:


To provide a creative working environment that meets the needs of each supported person.

To ensure that meaningful work is a central element of a full and enriching life for all regardless of ability.

To seek out new opportunities within the local community in support of our long term sustainable growth plan.

Responsible to: The senior co-worker team.

The role:


To provide a creative and imaginative response to individuals with additional support needs ensuring that each person has a daily work activity that meets their personal needs and fulfills the requirement for meaningful work. Activities may be carried out in small groups or individually.

To take responsibility for responding to and acting upon any issues arising through team meetings.

To support the senior co-worker team in meeting service improvements, a safe working environment and working with the co-worker team to make improvements in keeping with our ethos of continuous reflection and review.

Set a good example to the colleagues you lead, in your presentation and your personal conduct

Support and maintain the ethos of Tigh a’Chomainn and its aims and values

Follow and adhere to all policies implemented by TAC.

This role description is intended to provide a general statement of the major tasks and activities of the job. It is not an exhaustive list of all its detailed duties.
As a term of your employment, you will undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required by you and that are broadly consistent with the job.
Strategic direction


To support the Senior Co-worker team in delivering day services in line with our strategic planning.

To ensure that the delivery of the service meets our quality assurance objectives in all areas including the safe undertaking of work and positive risk.

38 hours per week.

Administrative support role tasks

The following is not an exclusive task list but includes the main tasks for the role of administrative support.

Trust

Schedule meetings/ Keep a diary of trustee meetings
Co-ordinate meetings including sending out papers, requesting agenda points
Ensure that documents are shared in a timely manner
Keep a minute of meetings including a schedule of action points
Maintain those files associated with the business of the Trust as requested by the Trustees
– This will include supporting a manager to lodge formal documents with Companies House and OSCR

(You will be required to attend meetings which may be at times other then your scheduled working time.)

Care and Support

Support the care team to maintain resident files by filing paper work and correspondence
Take notes of meetings including reviews as requested
Scheduling reviews as requested by a senior co-worker
Maintain residents diary including checking expected actions against actual actions
Monitoring benefits incoming and informing a senior co-worker of any discrepancies
Corresponding with the benefits agencies as instructed by a senior co-worker
Maintaining client account records

Co-workers

Supporting the senior Co-workers to maintain Co-worker records by filing and issuing paperwork as instructed
Supporting co-workers to maintain their personal training records and recording any training in central log
Schedule training as requested by senior co-workers

Finance

Aid finance manager
Monitor direct debits and utility supplies

Trustee role description

For over 30 years, Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill has provided specialist independent care to adults with complex needs including learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and disabilities. We are one of eleven Camphill Communities in Scotland, our ethos and values reflect this.

Our Community provides a home for adults with special needs in Aberdeen. Our aim is to support individuals in exploring their personal potential and their limitations, so that they may find purpose, direction and a sense of fulfilment in their lives.

The mission of Camphill Scotland is set out in full as an appendix to this document.

The Role of the Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill board of trustees

The board of Trustees provides a strategic framework so that the resources of Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill can be used to the maximum benefit of the organisation in meeting it’s aims and objectives as a Camphill Community and a charity. The management team prioritise their work within this strategic framework.

The board of Trustees ensures that governance requirements are met in accordance with the Articles of Association of the organisation, charitable law and company law. Key areas of oversight are:
Finance (suitability of systems and processes in order to ensure accountability through, reporting and auditing).
Health and Safety (suitability of systems and processes in order to ensure accountability through, reporting and auditing).
Data protection (suitability of systems and processes in order to ensure accountability through, reporting and auditing).

The board of Trustees supports and promotes the development of continuous improvement and good practice.

The Role of the Trustee

Trustees will bring useful knowledge and insight drawn from their interests and experience generally. Their role is to put this knowledge and insight to the benefit of Tigh a’Chomainn while ensuring that the core value and ethos of Tigh a’Chomainn is sustained.
The trustee should attend carefully to any situations that may give rise to a conflict of interest. As the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator states, a charity trustee must act in the interests of the charity and must do so ‘before their own interests or those of any other person or organisation.’

The following list is a guide and as such should be read as an indicative list of practical skills and qualities. It is not an exhaustive list and there may well be other skills and qualities we are looking for that you offer. Likewise we do not anticipate that all of the following list will be possessed by a single person.

6th August Covid-19 update

Updated 13/08/2020

As you may have heard in the news Aberdeen City has been placed under a local lock down. This is a step backwards on what had looked to be a promising route of recovery from Covid-19. In broad terms this won’t change our day to day situation as we are maintaining our underlying approach of minimal external contact, however, there are a few temporary measures we will need to put in place for at least the next 7 days.

Key changes:

We will not be able to host any visits including by family members until further notice.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Update:

The local restrictions for Aberdeen remain in place for the time being. We are reviewing Scottish Government advice regarding family visits.

Minute Secretary, part time

Working with: The Board of Trustees and the senior management team.

Background

Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill is a company limited by guarantee and a charity registered with OSCR. The Trust holds 7 meetings per annum plus ad-hoc meetings as required. Meetings may be held face to face typically at our office in Peterculter or by conferencing facilities including online.

Please familiarize yourself with our story.

Role

Support the chair in preparing the agenda for Trustee meetings (including ad-hoc).

Circulate the agenda and any papers.

Send out reminders.

Minute the meeting (including corrections/changes).

Arrange for signing and lodging of the minutes.

Prepare any additional paperwork required in accordance with our articles of association eg for an AGM.

Your skills

You should have basic IT skills.

You must be able to travel to meetings in the Aberdeen area.

You must be willing to meet our organisation and work with our ethos.

This role may well suit someone who is semi-retired or retired.

Pay

On application, dependent on experience.

TAC response to UK health visa crisis

Tigh a’Chomainn is deeply disappointed with the recent decision by the UK Government to exclude social care workers from the proposed new fast-track Health and Care visa. We believe the decision will significantly weaken the leading role that the UK has had in providing life changing possibilities to individuals with disabilities and complex support needs.

Camphill was founded over 80 years ago by refugees and migrants. Our organisation has gone on to lead a revolution in social care. The last four months have shown the real value of our international Communities. Our chair of trustees Alison Thomson has made the following statement:

“The international volunteers that support our Camphill Community and many others across the UK provide a unique and very valuable support network to the vulnerable adults that we support. Over the last few months they have shown their true colours through their dedication and commitment to our Community. Despite pressures to return home they remained in the country and have played a key part in ensuring the good health and wellbeing of everyone at Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill.

Their efficacy speaks for itself – to date we have had no cases of Covid-19, and our care metrics indicate that despite the immense uncertainty people supported by Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill remained well and in good spirits. Good care must include health and social care. We call on the government at Westminster to reverse its decision and include all health and care workers in the health care visa scheme.”

Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill supports the statement made by Camphill Scotland regarding this matter.

“This is a devastating blow to the care sector and the people who depend upon it most. The points-based immigration system places Camphill communities and care providers across the UK in a vulnerable position. Many questions remain unanswered but one thing is certain, and that’s the detrimental impact this decision will have on care provision.

For Camphill communities and other organisations who have international voluntarism embedded into their working practice, it’s a double-whammy. Cost of care will increase and the connections between our international volunteers and those that they work with will be lost.

Despite statements to the contrary, it is clear that the incredible commitment and work shown by our carers during the coronavirus pandemic has gone unnoticed by those who have made this decision. Clapping for carers each week is deeply insulting if the next act of government is to announce the curtain call.”

CAMPHILL SCOTLAND AND PARTNERS RESPOND

TO POST-BREXIT PLANS FOR SOCIAL CARE WORKERS

The UK Government’s decision to exclude care workers from the proposed new fast-track Health and Care visa is reckless and will have far reaching impacts on both the health and care sectors across the UK, and on those people who rely on quality, human-centred care. 

Camphill Scotland along with 50 partner organisations from across the UK including the ALLIANCE, SCVO, the Association of Camphill Communities, Scottish Care, Disability Wales, the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action and UNISON, have raised serious concerns regarding post-Brexit impacts on the health and social care sector for some time*. Brendan O’Hara MP lodged Amendment NC1 to the Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill on their behalf, which was debated and subsequently defeated on 30th June by 344 votes to 247 votes.

The amendment called for an independent evaluation to determine the full impact of the ending of freedom of movement and of the introduction of a points based immigration system on the care, support and safeguarding for disabled adults, children and young people, and people with long term conditions or other support needs.

The announcement made by the Home Secretary earlier this week confirms the worst fears of the partnership of 50 organisations, and leaves the care sector confused and concerned as to how they will retain and recruit skilled, committed staff. Carers continue to be undervalued despite the incredible work they do and the positive life changing impacts they can have on the people who they care for and support.

“Dedicated and committed social care workers provide invaluable support that enables disabled people and people living with long term conditions to enjoy their right to independent living and participate equally in – and contribute to – Scottish society. By excluding care workers from the proposed new fast-track Health and Care visa, the UK Government demonstrates a lack of understanding of the skilled and vital role played by the social care workforce.

This decision further perpetuates the lack of parity between health and social care, and underlines even more the need for an independent evaluation of the impact of the Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill on the health and social sectors, as called for by the ALLIANCE, Camphill Scotland and 50 partners.”

Dr. Donald Macaskill, Chief Executive, Scottish Care said:

“It is a matter of the deepest regret that the Home Office has failed to take into account the representations made by the care sector in Scotland. The failure to recognise the distinctive social care needs of Scotland both in terms of its ageing population and workforce and the shortage of workers in Scotland in general is a matter of incalculable folly.

To initiate such dramatic restrictions on the ability of social care providers to recruit from outwith the United Kingdom and to fail to identify social care in the Shortage Occupation List beggars belief in the midst of a global pandemic.”

Alison Thomson, Chair of trustees, Tigh a’Chomainn Camphill remarked:

“The international volunteers that support our Camphill Community and many others across the UK provide a unique and very valuable support network to the vulnerable adults that we support. Over the last few months they have shown their true colours through their dedication and commitment to our Community.
