Tigh a’Chomainn - developing a vision for the future.

Tigh a’Chomainn is a shared home for co-workers and adults with special needs, who live together as an extended family in all aspects of daily life. It is a stable, safe place with good human connections.

Tigh a’Chomainn is part of Camphill and holds to the Camphill ethos. It aims to be a community that is based on values of mutual care, respect and love. It appreciates the uniqueness of individuals and their particular spiritual and personal qualities. It recognises the fundamental importance of human relationship as the basis for social and emotional growth.

Residents are supported to explore their personal potential and to develop their sense of purpose and direction in life. They are encouraged to develop their understanding and skills so that those who wish to do so can move on to greater independence. Other residents may regard Tigh a’Chomainn as their permanent home.

The houseparents (senior co-workers) make a long-term commitment to the community. Younger co-workers may live in Tigh a’Chomainn for varying periods while they explore Camphill life, develop their skills and interests, and undertake training.

Tigh a’Chomainn is a base from which people can venture out into the world and where friends are welcomed. It has strong connections with other Camphill communities. Its social and cultural activities attract visitors and friends from Camphill and also from the local Peterculter community.

Tigh a’Chomainn is looking into developing more accommodation and support for adults with special needs (a maximum of 10-12 is envisaged, including the main house). A ‘core and cluster’ structure is being considered, so that residents can be connected with the home community while living away from the main site.
