Fire safety: policy statement
Tigh-a’Chomainn aims to ensure the safety of everyone on the premises (whether they are residents, co-workers, visitors or others) in respect of harm caused by fire. It is the policy of Tigh-a’Chomainn to comply with the fire safety duties that are set out in Part 3 of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations.
Tigh-a’Chomainn aims to comply with the following seven requirements that are identified in fire safety legislation and regulations:
1. Carrying out a fire safety risk assessment of the premises
2. Putting in place fire safety measures which have been identified as necessary as a result of the fire safety risk assessment outcome
3. Implementing these fire safety measures using risk reduction principles
4. Putting in place fire safety arrangements for the ongoing control and review of the fire safety measures
5. Complying additionally with the specific requirements of the fire safety regulations
6. Keeping the fire safety risk assessment and outcome under review
7. Record keeping
In order to meet these requirements, Tigh-a’Chomainn has put in place the following fire safety procedures:
1. Identification of hazards, i.e. possible sources of fuel and ignition
2. Assessment of fire risks for residents, co-workers and others
3. Implementation of control measures
4. Fire drills and training
5. Record keeping
6. Regular review of risk assessments and of safety procedures
Tom Marx is responsible for the day to day management of fire safety at Tigh-a’Chomainn.
Detailed statements of policies and procedures, and records of action taken, are in a file case marked ‘TaC Fire Safety’ in the cupboard in the office.
